Kanye West – The King of Hip-Hop
Kanye West is an American multi award winning Hip hop artist and producer famed for stylish hip hop music videos, his smash hit rap songs and his clever intricate rhymes. Kanye released his first album entitled “The College Drop Out” in 2004. The first single was entitled “Through The Wire” which sampled the Chaka Khan song “Through The Fire”. This single was backed by a typically cool Kanye West music video which was featured heavily on the MTV. More singles and more trademark Kanye West music videos was to follow in the shape of “All Falls Down” and “The New Workout Plan.
In August 2005 Kanye West released his second album “Late Registration” on Roc-A-Fella Records. This album featured contributions from artists including Lupe Fiasco, Jamie Foxx, Nas, and Brandy. The first single was entitled “Diamonds From Sierra Leone” which again was accompanied by another stylish Kanye West music video helping Kanye West to win a grammy for this song for Best Rap Song. More great Kanye West music video and Kanye West songs were to follow in the form of two lavish singles and videos “Gold Digger” featuring Oscar winner Jamie Foxx and “Touch The Sky” which featured Pamela Anderson in the video. “Late Registration” sold more than three million copies in the US and was voted in at number 40 of the best albums of the Decade 2000.
In 2007 Kanye West released his third album entitled “Graduation” with guest’s appearances from T-Pain and Lil Wayne and Mos Def to almost universal acceptance from critics. His first single was entitled “Cant Tell Me Nothing” and featured a suitably impressive Kanye West music videos directed by superstar Hip hop director Hype Williams. Other singles to be released included the hit singles “Good Life” which won a grammy and “Stronger” which were both backed by stylish Kanye West music videos. “Graduation” debuted at number 1 in the Billboard Top 100 Charts and eventually sold over 3 million copies in the US.
Kanye West fourth studio album was released in November 2008 and was entitled “808s & Heartbreak” once again it was released to almost universal critical acclaim. The first single “Love Lock Down” peaked at number 3 on the Billboard Top 100 charts and sold over two and a half million copies. Once again there as another stylish Kanye West music video to accompany this single release. More singles were to follow including the second single “Heartless” which featured an animated Kanye West video for the first time and “See You In My Nightmares” featuring Hip hop superstar Lil Wayne. “808s & Heartbreak” eventually sold over a million copies.

You did a song for Hari Puttar… It is a fun song?
Yes, but let me clarify that it was a promotional video and not part
of the movie. The producers came to me after the film was shot. I
liked the concept and took it on.
How was the experience shooting with little kids?
I enjoyed every moment. The idea was very cute. And I had to dance
with kids. I found it interesting and so took it up. I think it is a
fun song.
The media has been terming it an item number.
It is a masti number where I play myself. The song is peppy and
Punjabi – a fun song. To term it an item number is not fine. It is a
kids film.
What motivated you to do a kids film?
I have never done a kids film. I wanted to do the song as like I said,
the cuteness appealed to me.
How was it working with Zain?
Zain is a good actor. It was fun working with him.
We don’t see you much on the silver screen. What is reason for being selective?
I am running my production house now. And it takes up a lot of my
time. I do not get much time to do films and besides, I need something
that I enjoy to take it up.
It is said that Shilpa Shetty is making a film with you and Akshay
Kumar in the lead roles?
I wish I get these newsbreaks before you do. No, Shilpa was never
making a film with me and Akshay Kumar. These stories are made up by
media.
Television. No, I haven’t thought about it. I live one day a time. I
don’t know what the future holds for me. I would like to do a great
job at what I have taken on right now. And if in the future, I get
interested then well, it is a matter of that moment.
What do you feel is the USP of Hari Puttar – A Comedy of Terrors?
Why does anyone go to the theatre after buying a ticket? To be
entertained. Hari Puttar – A Comedy of Terrors has that entertainment
value. It is a fun film and I am sure that is one reason why everyone
must see it.
Talking of kids films, one parting question. How does it feel to see
Taare Zameen Par being chosen for the Oscars?
Taare Zameen Par is a film that everybody loved. It is a brilliantly
made film. I am very happy it has been chosen for the Oscars. And I am
sure it will win.
